About Louisa

Hello, I’m Louisa.

Mother, counsellor, photographer.

My work is devoted to women, and to the many seasons of womanhood.

Movement and expression were always my medicine.

From an early age in West End theatre in London, to a career as a performance artist, I naturally went on to study a degree in Acting, where I specialised in somatics, physical theatre and theatre in education.

Then came the subtle teachers.

Meditation, somatics, yoga, Ayurveda and ceremony showed me that women heal not by fixing ourselves, but by listening to the body.

Then came motherhood.

Birthing my son was a profound initiation. It called me to hold women more tenderly, through matrescence and beyond.

And a love of stories.

I’m also co-founder of Everkin Books, beautiful books for children from 0 to 12, and for adults too, written with the wisdom of developmental psychology.

Movement & the body

Move from the inside out.

Not to perform, but to connect.

As a movement artist, I empower women to move from the inside out, guided by sensation rather than how it looks. There’s no right way to move, only your way.

The body keeps the score.

What we’ve lived through is held in the body as well as the mind. Through talk and somatic therapy, we connect to the wisdom within, and let the body show us the way home.

Questions

Things women often ask.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

If something has been weighing on you, or you simply sense it’s time for change, that’s reason enough. You don’t need to be in crisis or have the right words. Our free 15-minute call is an easy way to see how it feels.

What is holistic counselling?

Holistic counselling looks at the whole of you: thoughts, emotions, body, intuition, cycles, relationships and sense of meaning. Rather than focusing simply on the cognitive experience, we explore how everything connects: mind, body and heart.

You don’t need a connection to spirituality to benefit from these sessions. All beliefs, religions and cultures are warmly welcomed and respected.

What can it help with?

Women often come to me for matrescence and the identity shifts of motherhood, postnatal overwhelm and anxiety, processing a birth experience, grief and loss, burnout, relationship changes, and reconnecting with their body and sense of self.

How is this different from seeing a psychologist?

I’m a qualified holistic counsellor, not a psychologist or psychiatrist. I don’t diagnose or prescribe. Counselling is a collaborative, supportive space to explore what you’re carrying. If you need a diagnosis, medication or clinical treatment, I’m happy to refer, or work alongside your GP or psychologist.

What happens in the first session?

We’ll start slowly and hold space for whatever is alive in you that day. I’ll ask what you’d like to feel more of, explain how I work, and we’ll organically get a sense of where to begin. You share only what feels right.

I might guide you in a meditation to help regulate your nervous system and soften into the space. We might sit on the ground or on a chair, and sometimes you might feel like breathing or moving rather than talking. However you feel most at ease.

Do I have to do anything physical?

Somatic work is always invitational: noticing your breath, sensations or posture, usually while seated. Nothing is ever required, and you can always say no or simply talk.

How long is each session, and how many will I need?

Sessions are 60 minutes. Everyone is different, but many women find a block of around 6–8 sessions, weekly or fortnightly, gives real space for change, which is why I offer 5- and 8-session packages. We’ll check in together as we go.

Where are you based, and do you offer online sessions?

I see women in person on the Central Coast and in the Blue Mountains, NSW, and online anywhere in Australia via a secure, private video platform.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes. Babies in arms are always welcome, in person or online.

What is matrescence?

Matrescence is the transition of becoming a mother, a change as profound as adolescence that touches your body, identity, relationships and values. It’s normal for it to feel disorienting, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

How much does it cost? Can I claim Medicare?

You’ll find session fees in the pricing section. Holistic counselling isn’t covered by Medicare, and private health rebates vary between funds, so it’s worth checking with yours.

Do you offer reduced-fee sessions?

Yes. Each month a number of supported sessions are funded by local businesses for women on a low income. Find out more or simply get in touch. Your request is always confidential.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Everything you share is confidential, within the legal and ethical limits we’ll talk through together in your first session.

What if we’re not the right fit?

That’s completely okay, and it’s why we begin with a free call. Feeling safe with your counsellor matters most. If I’m not the right person, I’ll gladly suggest others who might be.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 24 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel, so the time can be offered to someone else.

How do I book?

Use any “Book a session” button to choose a time online, or send me a message and I’ll get back to you within a day or two.

What if I need urgent support?

This practice isn’t a crisis service. If you need help right now, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14, PANDA (perinatal support) on 1300 726 306, or 000 in an emergency.
